Here are two upcoming classes that caught my attention: Wine Authorities in Raleigh is offering its first class Thursday night and Sam Ratto, owner of Videri Chocolate Factory, teaching about bean-to-bar chocolate at a Nov. 15 class at Southern Season.
(The only way to top that is to get them to teach a class that combines both topics.)
Here are the details:
• The two-hour wine class will cover “how vines are grown and wine is made, as well as how to read a label, how to buy wine, how to store wine, how to drink, er, taste wine... and we’ll debunk many wine myths.” The class, which starts at 7:33 p.m., costs $36. To reserve a spot, call 919-831-9463.
Never miss a local story.
The store is located at 211 E. Franklin St., Raleigh. Info: wineauthorities.com.
• At 6 p.m. Nov. 15, Ratto will teach students about how high-quality chocolate is made and demonstrate its use in delicious desserts and share techniques for cooking with chocolate including how to temper it and how to melt and mold chocolate. The menu includes Videri Chocolate brownies, Videri Chocolate ice cream and a light dinner. The class costs $40. To reserve a spot, call 919-929-7133 or go online tosouthernseason.com
It is worth mentioning that GQ magazine recently named Videri as “chocolate to die for” and listed it as #27 among its “50 Thing to Eat Now.” Check that out in the November issue.
