Here are two upcoming classes that caught my attention: Wine Authorities in Raleigh is offering its first class Thursday night and Sam Ratto, owner of Videri Chocolate Factory, teaching about bean-to-bar chocolate at a Nov. 15 class at Southern Season.
(The only way to top that is to get them to teach a class that combines both topics.)
Here are the details:
• The two-hour wine class will cover “how vines are grown and wine is made, as well as how to read a label, how to buy wine, how to store wine, how to drink, er, taste wine... and we’ll debunk many wine myths.” The class, which starts at 7:33 p.m., costs $36. To reserve a spot, call 919-831-9463.

• At 6 p.m. Nov. 15, Ratto will teach students about how high-quality chocolate is made and demonstrate its use in delicious desserts and share techniques for cooking with chocolate including how to temper it and how to melt and mold chocolate.
