A few local food people have recently receive some recognition:
Chef Ricky Moore of Saltbox Seafood Joint in Durham was recognized in Saveur magazine’s annual 100 list. The magazine wrote about Saltbox: “The daily-caught fish bristles with freshness, the preparations reveal chef Ricky Moore’s creativity and skill: toothsome grilled bluefish in a smoky-spicy rub of paprika and Aleppo pepper; an oyster roll, the plump, sweet mollusks dusted in fine cornmeal before frying, then topped with a fresh herb-laced slaw. Moore’s tiny but mighty Saltbox Seafood Joint in Durham, North Carolina, fulfills our wildest fantasies of what a takeout fish shack can be.”
Four Triangle companies received Good Food Awards this year: Durham’s Guglhupf Bakery, Restaurant and Cafe was honored for its smoked hog head cheese in the charcuterie category; Raleigh’s Videri Chocolate Factory for its 90% dark chocolate Ecuador Camino Verde in the chocolate category; Raleigh’s WR Chocolatier for its mocha in the confections category; and Hillsborough’s Two Chicks Farm for its dill kraut and pickles in the pickles category.
