Caribbean Royale Ice Cream now open in Clayton

A native of Jamaica serves up the island’s fruit-flavored ice cream in a new Johnston County shop.

A new ice cream parlor specializing in the fruit-flavored ice creams popular in Jamaica has opened in Clayton.

Caribbean Royale Ice Cream is the work of Hyacinth Reece-Headley, a Raleigh woman originally from Jamaica. Reece-Headley had an ice cream business in Chicago before she moved to Raleigh to be the human resources director at Shaw University. Now that she’s semiretired, she decided to start her ice cream business again.

The store, which opened earlier this month, will have its grand opening event at 11 a.m. April 1. Here’s the information you really want:

The flavors: banana, coconut, grapenut (as in the cereal and it is their #1 seller), guava, mango, pineapple, rum raisin, ginger and sour sop.

Prices: $1.99 for four ounces, $3.75 for eight ounces, and $4.99 for 16 ounces.

Hours: 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, closed weekends.

Location: 914 N.C. Highway 42, Clayton.
