A weekend of food-related family outings on April 26 and 27

Mark the calendar for next weekend for the Piedmont Farm Tour and the Carrboro Farmers' Market tomato seedling giveaway.

There are two very popular food events the weekend of April 26 and 27 that are perfect for families:

• Starting at 8:30 a.m. April 26, the Carrboro Farmers’ Market will be giving away farmer-grown tomato seedlings to children at the market. The children get to pick their seedling, plant it in a cup to take home and decorate a label for their seedling. Last year, more than 400 children participated in the event.

• From 2- 6 p.m. April 26 and 27, is the 19th annual Piedmont Farm Tour featuring 39 farms from Roxboro to Carrboro.

Here’s how it works: Buy a button in advance for $25 or at the first farm you visit on the day of the event for $30. One button gets you on as many farms of the 39 farms you like over the two days. Or you can pay $10 to visit one farm during the tour.

Buttons can be purchased in advance at Weaver Street Market in Carrboro, Chapel Hill and Hillsborough, Harmon Farms in Raleigh, Chatham Marketplace in Pittsboro, the Chapel Hill and the Durham farmers’ market.
