Raleigh native makes final two for Rachael Ray cookbook contest

Fanny Slater is a finalist for a cookbool deal comeptition on Rachael Ray’s daytime show.

Fanny Slater, a Raleigh native who now works as a caterer in Wilmington, N.C., is one of two finalists in a cookbook competition on the Rachael Ray show.

If Slater, 28, wins the competition, she will get a book deal with Rachael Ray Books, an imprint of The Atria Publishing Group. The finale will air 10 a.m. Monday on ABC11.

The competition was launched in last year to find “the next Rachael Ray.” It attracted submissions from all over the country. Applicants had to showcase a range of skills, including being able to clearly articulate their book concept, the ability to create three original recipes and produce a cooking demonstration video. The five finalists were chosen based on their impressive recipes, cooking skills, book concept and showing a “can-do attitude” that Ray admires, according to a press release.

Slater’s cookbook idea is called “Tastes Like Childhood” and will share recipes that “turn her favorite tastes from childhood into new dishes that inspire imagination in the kitchen,” according to a press release.

Slater attended Ravenscroft and Peace College in Raleigh, according to her father, Jeffrey Slater. She now runs Fanfare Catering in Wilmington and writes a blog,
