Six Plates hosts TxakoliFest this Saturday

TxakoliFest celebrates the sparkling dry wine from Spain’s Basque country.

Durham’s Six Plates restaurant is hosting its annual TxakoliFest from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday.

Six Plates owner Matthew Beason sponsors the annual event to spread the word about txakoli, a sparkling dry wine produced in the Basque country of Spain. This year’s event is co-sponsored by Wine Authorities.

The event has two sessions: a fundraising event from noon-3 p.m. to benefit Urban Ministries of Durham. The fundraising event includes food and tastings of 12 different txakolis to taste by the glass, and a souvenir glass to take home.

The participating chefs include Six Plates’ John Eisensmith, Amy Tournquist of Watts Grocery, Gray Brooks of Pizzeria Toro, Kim Floresca and Daniel Ryan of ONE restaurant, Matt Kelly of Mateo Tapas and Vin Rouge, Ricky Moore of Saltbox Seafood Joint and Tim Lyons of Blue Seafood.

The second tasting session is from 3-10 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door and and cost only $10. The admission covers entertainment but does not include food or wine.
