CrossTies Barbecue, the latest restaurant from chef-owner Andrew Moore who owns Venable Rotisserie Bistro, will open at 5:30 p.m. tonight in the former Southern Rail location.
“We’ve been working hard to update the space and make it a true destination for amazing food and drink,” said Moore in a press release. “While there is great barbecue throughout the Triangle, we believe we can bring something new and exciting to the scene with our own twists on the food and service. Plus, the setting is truly unique.”
The barbecue restaurant is the final phase of Moore’s renovation of the former Carrboro Railways Station, which also houses The Station restaurant, next to the train tracks and Carr Mill Mall. This means Moore owns and operates four businesses within view of each other, including Venable Rotisserie Bistro, B-Side Lounge and The Station, which opened in April. CrossTies Barbecue will be open for lunch and dinner serving Carolina and regional barbecue, a variety of house-smoked, slow-cooked meats, sides, salads, sandwiches and appetizers. This weekend’s opening will feature a streamlined menu; the menu’s offerings will later expand to include barbecue shrimp and grits, roasted sea scallops wrapped in brisket, and vegetarian options, including barbecue tofu and a BLT sandwich. The bar will serve craft beer, wine and cocktails with an emphasis on bourbon.
“Both the service and some of the food is a bit more upscale,” said Moore in a press release. “But, CrossTies is truly a restaurant where everyone will feel comfortable and welcome. You can have a rack of ribs, fried catfish, pulled pork and wings or opt instead for a spinach salad, BBQ chicken, and smoked trout. We expect to see families, date night couples, pre/after games…it’s approachable, great food with enough variety that you can eat here often without tiring of the menu.”
