There are as many James Beard award nominees and winners as there are courses at the seventh annual Poole’s Dinner to Help End Childhood Hunger.
The benefit dinner hosted by chef Ashley Christensen will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 17 at Poole’s Diner in Raleigh, with proceeds of the meal going to national childhood hunger charity Share Our Strength and, for the first time, local group Inter-Faith Food Shuttle.
The roster of chefs is staggering this year, with each course prepared by a James Beard nominee or winner. Joining Christensen for the dinner will be Alex Raij of El Quinto Pino, Txikito, La Vera and Tekoa in New York, Jason Stanhope of FIG in Charleston, “Top Chef” alum Sarah Grueneberg of Monteverde in Chicago, Garland’s Cheetie Kumar and Kelly Fields from Willa Jean in New Orleans.
The night will start with a cocktail hour and snacks made by Christensen, followed by a five-course dinner with a wine pairing.
Seats are $200 per person or a table can be bought for $1,000. If you can’t make it, but want to donate anyway, the event’s website is set up for that. Poole’s Diner is at 426 S. McDowell St. in Raleigh.
In other Christensen news, if you’ve been following along on Instagram, you know she and AC Restaurants brand director Kaitlyn Goalen are in Naples, Italy, doing pizza research for the upcoming Pooleside Pie. The pizzeria has been on the local radar since 2015 and is slated to open in the space beside Poole’s next year. Judging by the images of wood-fired envy beaming thousands of miles back home to Raleigh, expect Pooleside to be Neapolitan style and lots of fun.
