Two local cookbook authors have new books out: Cary writer Sandra Gutierrez and Chapel Hill writer Nancie McDermott.
Gutierrez’s latest book is “Empanadas: The Hand-Held Pies of Latin America.” Gutierrez is having a book launch party from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 22 at Roost in Fearrington Village. Tickets cost $35 and people receive a copy of the book and can enjoy samples from the book as well as live music. For tickets, go to nando.com/empanadas.
There’s also a second big event called Sandra Gutierrez Day coming up at Southern Season in Chapel Hill. From 11 a.m.-4 p.m. May 3, Gutierrez will be on hand doing cooking demos, book signings and offering samples.

McDermott’s new book is “Simply Vegetarian Thai Cooking: 125 Real Thai Recipes,” from the Robert Rose publisher. She has two upcoming events: an 11 a.m. May 2 book reading and signing at McIntyre’s Books in Fearrington Village and a 7 p.m. May 26 book signing at The Regulator Bookshop in Durham.
