Tandem, a new restaurant taking over former Cafe Symmetry spot in Carrboro’s Carr Mill Mall, will open Friday.
The restaurant is being opened by Younes Sabouh and Emma Dunbar, who have been the chef and general manager respectively at City Kitchen in Chapel Hill for the last four years. (City Kitchen is one of Giorgios Hospitality Group, which also own Vin Rouge, Kipos, Parizade and nine other restaurants from Wake Forest to Asheville.)
Tandem’s menu will offer regional American cuisine with international influences. Sabouh will source ingredients from family-owned local farms. The menu will offer a la carte ordering as well as shared plates. The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner.
Sabouh, who is originally from Morocco, worked in Europe, including as the personal chef for the family who owns the Hermes luxury goods line and travelled the world with them. Sabouh came to the Triangle to work at Herons restaurant at The Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary. Dunbar previously worked Crowne Plaza and Loews hotel groups before working at City Kitchen.

Hours this weekend: 5-10:30 p.m. with bar open late night, Friday and Saturday; 5-9 p.m. Sunday.
Regular hours start April 13: 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Tuesday-Wednesday with bar open late night; 11 a.m.-10:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday with bar open late night; and 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday.
