We invited you recently to share helpful "life hacks" - little tricks that make life easier around your home and garden. These are some of our favorites. The readers will be entered in a quarterly drawing for a Visa gift card.
Hang the flag
Trouser hangers (the type with several open-ended bars below the hook) are ideal for storing mailbox flags. No wrinkles, and it's easy to see what flags you have.
Never miss a local story.
Set a timer
Replace bathroom fan switches with timer knobs. A 15-minute maximum is good. When you use the shower or toilet, just turn it and forget it. You don't have to remember to turn it off later. Saves energy and time and annoyance.
1 Save the mesh bag in which onions are sold and use it to store dahlia and other bulbs over the winter in the garage or planting shed.
2 If you sell your home, do the buyer a favor. When you disconnect surround-sound speakers from your receiver, tape a label to each set of cables - front left, rear right, sub woofer and so on. The buyers will sing your praises when they hook up their receiver.
