Red-Ruffed Lemurs Born at the Smithsonian's National Zoo

Six-year-old lemur Molly gave birth to three red-ruffed lemurs, a critically endangered species, on April 5. The babies appear healthy and strong, the zoo says. They are now on view at the National Zoo at the small mammal house. Red-ruffed lemurs are native to the northeastern deciduous forests of Madagascar.

Practically anyone with a dish towel, an empty beer can, a little kibble and whole lot of patience can teach a dog to fetch a beer. Ivy Kite, though, can fetch beer, water, wine or soda on demand and paint pictures. Her paintings selling worldwide. The Aussie's work has also benefited animal welfare charities.

Chandler is a happy-go-lucky dog that is up for anything – as long as it does not involve water. This American Staffordshire Terrier, in a foster home through the Wake County Animal Center, walks well on a leash and is house- and crate-trained.

Zoo's penguin chicks are weighed

Four Humboldt penguin chicks hatched at the Chester Zoo the week of April 3rd, 2016. Wotsit, Quaver, Frazzle and Cheeto were all named after snack chips. The zoo released video of Wotsit and Quaver being weighed by staff members. Cheeto was only 75 grams or 2.65 ounces. Keeper Anne Morris says that of the world’s 17 penguin species, Humboldt penguins are among the most at risk.

'High Speed' Chihuahuia Chase on San Francisco Bay Bridge

A Chihuahua is in animal custody after leading police on a chase across the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge. The California Highway Patrol tweeted the small black dog “led us on quite a chase” Sunday and posted a video of it running furiously on the upper level of the bridge as it was trailed by a motorcycle officer.

UNC mascot Rameses has twin sons

Meet Ollie and Marvin, the newest twin sons of University of North Carolina mascot Rameses XXII. The twin Horned Dorset lambs were born to Rameses XXII and Stella on March 22 at around 3 p.m. They are the couple’s eighth children.

Baby eagles rise and shine in Washington, D.C.

Two eagles were hatched in a nest in Washington, D.C. on March 18 and March 20, respectively. Their parents, Mr. President and The First Lady, continue to care for the fluffy baby birds. Here, the First Lady dotes on the eaglets in the early morning of March 29. The action can be seen online at the American Eagle Foundation's eagle cam at http://dceaglecam.eagles.org/.

Family reunites with their lost dog

While visiting Raleigh for New Year's, the Bilodeau family lost their dog Bilbo, who ran away soon after the clock struck midnight. After 10 weeks, the family had lost hope of finding their dog. After a post on a Facebook page, they received a call on Monday that Bilbo had been found in bushes beside a road in Raleigh. The next day Margaret Bilodeau and her two daughters, Sophia and Isabella, rushed from Powder Springs, Georgia, to reunite with their puppy.

Koalas return to the Kansas City Zoo for the summer, fall

The Kansas City Zoo will be home for two koalas that are on loan from the San Diego Zoo. The koalas, Coedie and Burra, will go on public display Thursday. The koalas will be at the zoo through November.
