Sally Norman, age 65, passed away on Sunday morning, May 3, 2015, at Peak Resources in Cherryville, NC. She had been a resident of Rutherfordton since 2003.
She was the daughter of the late Thomas Updegraff and the late Thelma Boyer Updegraff. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister: Sylvia Lancaster; brother-in-law Jimmy Lancaster and a niece Bonnie Bourne Davis.
Sally was raised in Garner, NC. As the youngest of six siblings, she was Garner High School's Head Cheer Leader. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Warner Southern College in lake Wells, FL, and received Magna Cum Laude Honors.
Sally was a long-term employee of Airline Tariff Publishing Company in Washington, DC where she was a Corporate Officer and rose to the position of Vice President of Programming. She later established and managed a branch office of ATP in Melbourne, FL developing ticketing software programs for all of the major US airlines.

Having an adventurous spirit, Sally pursued golfing, tennis and skiing; traveled extensively throughout Europe, Africa, Hawaii and Alaska; went on several African Safaris; and even soloed in a small aircraft-just to prove she could.
After joining her sisters in Rutherford County retirement in 2003, Sally won numerous awards for her master quilting artistry. She also served as Executive Director of Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity where she developed the Program into the robust organization that exists today. After again retiring as Executive Director, she continued as a volunteer - not only on Habitat for Humanity, but as a member of Rutherford Housing
Partnership's Women Roofers. Her church and other affiliations were numerous, and in recent years included membership in Suntree United Methodist Church in Melbourne, FL; First United Methodist Church in Rutherfordton, NC; and The Foothills Quilting Guild where she served as President.
Survivors include: two sisters, Teresa Bourne and her husband Bob of Rutherfordton, Mary Gregg and her husband Buddy of Lake Lure, two brothers, Paul Updegraff and his wife Ruth of Raleigh Allen Updegraff and his wife Linda of Rice, TX; six nephews; two nieces.
Memorial service will be 1 PM Thursday, May 7, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, Rutherfordton with Dr. Jack Knoespel officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the Family Life Center.
