Pearl Levenson, born in Brooklyn, NY died May 3, 2015 in her home at the age of 97. Upon graduating from High School at 16, she went to work to help support her family during the Depression. While working in a law office, she met a handsome young attorney applying for a job and they married in 1939. Not wanting to be apart when he was drafted to serve as an officer in WWII, Pearl independently boarded a train in NY and followed him across the country to be with him at each military base. She was married to Hy for 71 years until his death in 2010. All who knew them admired their loving and adoring relationship.
They eventually left New York City to raise their family in Teaneck, NJ. It was the 1950's and Pearl took on many leadership roles in volunteer work at the school and synagogue. Her passion was her family and they were the focus of her warmth, devotion and keen intelligence. Her compassionate, easy going nature belied an underlying grit and resilience as she dealt with life's adversities.
Pearl moved to Raleigh in 2011. Her love of life and family, along with her wit, grace, and dignity were with her until her death.
She is survived by her son Kenneth Levenson(Louise), daughter Joyce Zeitler(Kenneth); grandchildren Aaron(Leslie),
Daniel(Erin), Brian(Haley), Emily(Christian) and six great grandchildren.
A funeral will be held in NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Perry and Honey Levine Memorial Fund for Senior Programs c/o Beth Meyer Synagogue or the charity of your choice.
