William “Bill” J. Perry, 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 4, 2015,at Rex Hospital after a massive stroke.
Bill was born on July 5, 1936, in Franklin County, North Carolina, son of the late Clyde J. and Blonnie S. Perry. His wife of 54 years, Maggie Atkinson Perry, and his sister, Jean P. Amos, also preceded him in death.
Bill was a longtime, active member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church and served in many roles including Deacon and Sunday School Director. He proudly served in the US Navy and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Zebulon, NC. He retired from the State of North Carolina in 1995 after serving 30 years at Central Prison as a Lieutenant. He received The Order of the Long Leaf Pine in 1995 from Governor Hunt.
He is survived by his daughter, Ann Morrison, and husband, Greg, of Raleigh; son, David Perry and wife, Rose, of Pilot; grandson, Jonathan Wester and wife, Maggie, of Carthage, great-granddaughter, Kylie Wester, of Carthage; brother-in-law, Charles Atkinson and wife, Roxene, of Starkville, Mississippi; brother, Harold Perry and wife, Alice, of Hillsville, Virginia; brother, Ronnie Perry and wife, Kathy, of Virginia; sister, Kay Workman and husband, Mickey, of Zebulon, many nieces and nephews, and very special friend, Annie Mae Flowers.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 7th from 6 – 8 pm at Massey Funeral Home, 913 N. Arendell Avenue, Zebulon, NC 27597 (919)269-6600. A service in honor of his life will be held on Friday, May 8th, at 2 pm at Pine Ridge Baptist Church and burial with military honors and Masonic rights will follow in the church cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Bill’s name to Pine Ridge Baptist Church, 874 Pine Ridge Road, Zebulon, NC 27597.
