Margaret Wallace Ransdell died at UNC Memorial Hospital on May 5, 2015 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She was 84.
Mrs. Ransdell was born on October 3, 1930 in Raleigh, NC to Aycue and Eliza Wallace. She graduated from Saint Augustine's College (now known as Saint Augustine's University) in Raleigh, NC, with a degree in Business and Business Education in 1957. Immediately after graduation, she obtained employment at the college and rose over her distinguished career to serve as Vice President for Personnel. She also taught classes at the college and was a key member of the team that was responsible for writing successful grant proposals and applications.
During her employment at "Saint Aug" she continued her education by earning a Master's Degree in Commerce from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC. Mrs Ransdell was a teacher and administrator who exhibited endless support and patience in helping students get their degrees. She retired in the early 1990s and dedicated her remaining years to educating and caring for her family members, including her beloved grandchildren, whom she adoringly regarded as angels in her life.
She became a young Christian through Fayetteville Street Baptist Church (now known as First Cosmopolitan Baptist Church) where she sang alto in the choir, was an active member, and served many years as the church secretary. Additionally, she worked through the College's ministry and its affiliation with the Episcopal Dioceses of North Carolina. During the 1960s, she was an active, life member and secretary of the Raleigh Chapter of the NAACP. she was also a member of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, a national personnel association, and many other organizations.
In 1977, she was appointed to the Board of the North Carolina Zoological Park (Asheboro, NC) by then- Govenor James B. Hunt. Inspiring love, respect, educational achievement, creativity, and dedication in others were her life-long missions. Mrs. Ransdell is survived by her two sons Wilton Larry (Lorena) of New York City and Michael (Donna) of Raleigh; her brother, Solomon Wallace of New York City; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 5 nephews/nieces (including Tracy M. Hicks of Raleigh); 2 first cousins; and a host of other family members, numerous friends, and many past co-workers.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 11, 2015 at First Cosmopolitan Baptist Curch, 1515 Crosslink Rd, Raleigh NC 27610. The family will receive visitors at 11:00 AM and her funeral service will begin at 12:00PM. Burial will immediatedly follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mrs. Ransdell's life.
