George, age 75, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday at his home. He was raised in Northampton County. He came to Raleigh to attend NC State-he loved the Wolfpack!-and resided here where he served as a Raleigh Police Officer, was manager of a BB&T branch, and later ran his own home improvement business.
George's warm smile and joking nature will be sorely missed by his many friends and family. He never met a stranger and had a way of making each person he met feel special and loved. He was an avid reader, with a penchant for all things WWII. He believed in God first, Country second, Family third, and he modeled that every day. George served in the Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 297. He had a passion for camping, fishing, and dogs. He enjoyed traveling and attending ALL of Laurie's soccer and volleyball games, and later, his grandchildren's sporting events, too. His positive attitude and sunny disposition were contagious.
George is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda Hedrick Cox, daughter Laurie, and son-in-law David Parker.
He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Ryan and Zoe Parker and grand dog, Mint; Special cousins Nancy Skipper and friend, Edgar Cain of Jackson, NC and Mimi and John Dutton of Matthews, VA; Several nieces, nephews, and beloved neighbors-They will need to find a new mayor!
Memorial Services will be held at 7 pm on Monday, May 11 at Millbrook United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends from 5-7 pm at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of George may be made to Millbrook United Methodist Church, 1712 E Millbrook Road in Raleigh, 27609 or to the SPCA, 200 Petfinders Lane in Raleigh, 27603.
