Sid Booth, 90, of Durham, NC, passed away, Wednesday, May 6, 2015.
Sid was born in Durham, November 14, 1924 to Ernest S. Booth, Sr. and Vallie Watts Booth. He graduated from Durham High School in 1942 and then spent two years in the Army-Air Force ground crew stationed in England. After discharge, he graduated from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Phi Beta Kappa in May 1948 and on June 11, 1948 he married Patty Jane Wall. Sid first worked as a chemist for Dupont in NJ and then Liggett and Myers Tobacco Company in Durham until he and his father formed the family’s real estate and insurance company in 1958. He was an Independent Insurance Agent until retirement in 1999. He was involved in the Durham Jaycees, the Tobaccoland Kiwanis Club, and was an active member of Watts Street Baptist Church. He was known for his devotion to his wife Pat for over 66 years and to his family. He was always true to his faith, his friends and his willingness to help others in any way he could. In both his personal and professional life, he always stood as an example of compassion and respect for all people.
Sid is survived by his wife, Pat Booth of Durham, and their two sons: John S. Booth Jr. and his wife Alice of Raleigh and their two children, Katherine and Tony; and Stephen P. Booth and his wife Mary Lou of Durham.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 12 at Watts Street Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Watts Street Baptist Church, 800 Watts Street, 27701.
