Channie Roe Dennis, Jr. of West End, NC passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2015 and was reunited with his loving wife of 59 years, Betty Dennis who died in February. He grew up in Burlington, NC and graduated from Burlington High School in 1949 and from NC State in 1954 with a major in horticulture and a commission of Second Lieutenant in the US Army. Channie and Betty met while in college and married in Schweinfurt, Germany in 1956 where Channie was with the Tank Company of the 86th Infantry Regiment. In 1957, they returned to the states and lived in Apex until retiring to West End. He worked in data processing, retiring from Cooper Tools as Senior Systems Analyst in 1993. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Southern Pines, where he taught Sunday School for several years.
In addition to his wife, Channie was preceded in death by his parents Channie and Annie Dennis.
He is survived by sons James and wife Joanne and step-grandchildren Jay and Dominick Flood of Rock Hill, SC; Steve and wife Garnet and grandchildren Zach, Jordan, Chris and Justin Dennis of Newark, DE; sisters-in-law Shirley Caraway of Apex, NC, and Mary Woodall and husband Woody of Durham, NC. He is also survived by cousins Carolyn Morris, and Brad and wife Alice Saunders; and many nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 11th at First Baptist Church of Southern Pines, 200 East New York Ave, Southern Pines NC 28387. A visitation will occur in the sanctuary at 1:00 pm prior to the memorial service.
