Helen Dean Frazelle Marchese age 102 died Tuesday, May 13, 2015 at Emerald Health and Rehab in Lillington, NC.
She was born February 6th, 1913, in Richlands, NC to Edward L. and Mary Ethel Frazelle. When she was a teenager, the family moved to Raleigh where she attended Hugh Morrison High School and St. Mary’s College.
On September 7th, 1935 at Edenton Street United Methodist Church, she and Anthony S. Marchese were married in a double wedding ceremony with Helen’s sister Lois Frazelle and Wm. W. Johnson of Fuquay-Varina, NC.
Because her husband worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority prior to World War II, they lived in Knoxville and then Chattanooga, TN. During World War II they were situated in Atlanta, GA and Helena, AK. In 1946 she and her husband moved to Poughkeepsie, NY where she raised her two sons and served in the community for 56 years. She was an active member of the Trinity Methodist Church and the Community Methodist Church. Because of her many volunteer efforts, she was recognized as Woman of the Year for several organizations: in 1979 by the Rotary Clubs of Poughkeepsie and Arlington, in 1983 by the American Association of University Women, in 1985 by the Trinity Methodist Church, and in 1989 by Kiwanis International. In addition, she received awards for her service from the Eleanor Roosevelt Center in Valkill, Dutchess County Mental Health Association, the Hudson River Psychiatric Center, the New York State PTA, and the Foundation of Religion and Mental Health.

Helen was predeceased by her husband, Anthony S. Marchese of Poughkeepsie, NY, her son Michael A. Marchese of Tucson, AZ, and her son Don P. Marchese of Holly Springs, NC. She is survived by her two daughters- in- law Sandra O. Marchese of Tucson, AZ, Mary Marchese of Nashua, NH, 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Known for her generous spirit and Southern charm, Helen will be greatly missed by all the people whose lives she touched.
