Margaret S. "Maggi" Boyer, 96, died peacefully on January 9, 2015 in Fruita Co. She had lived for the last 7 years with her niece Margaret (Peggy) Ferrante in Florida and Colorado.
Maggi retired from Exxon Oil in 1982 and moved with her husband, Robert (Bob) Boyer, from New Jersey to Fearrington Village, NC. There they became very active in cultural and educational activities by participating in and setting up endowment funds, which supported the Duke Artists Series and the Chamber Arts Society Series at Duke University. The Margaret and Robert Boyer Endowment Fund at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill supported the College of Arts and Sciences, The Ackland Museum, PlayMakers Repertory Company and the Program in the Humanities and Human Values. Maggi not only graduated from UNC Chapel Hill where she earned her Bachelors Degree, but also volunteered her secretarial skills to the College of Arts and Sciences for many years. After her husband Bob passed away she moved to Galloway Ridge and was still very involved with her community.
Maggi was an active member of The Binkley Baptist Church when she lived in North Carolina, and it was her wish that her ashes be scattered there after her passing. Maggi’s ashes will be scattered on May 16th in the Binkley Baptist Church garden at 12:30pm with the Rev. W. Dale Osborne leading the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Margaret and Robert Endowment Fund c/o Arts and Sciences Foundation, Campus Box 6115, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-6115.
