Ethel Daniel Bilbro Davis Grubbs, age 90, of Cary, NC passed away on May 12, 2015, after a very short illness at WakeMed Cary Hospital. Ethel was born in Greenville, NC, the youngest daughter of the late Archie Bilbro and Ruby Daniel Bilbro of Middlesex, NC. She graduated from Middlesex High School, class of 1941.
Ethel was preceded in death by two husbands, Ted Davis, Jr of Zebulon, NC and Julian Grubbs of Griffin, GA; daughter, Dana Davis Bayley of Raleigh, NC; sister Mary Bunn of Garner, NC; brother Charles Bilbro of Nashville, NC ; and granddaughter Deidra Davis Efird of Matthews, NC. She is survived by children Dennis Davis of Excelsior, MN; Lynne Davis Peters of Cary, NC; Ted Davis, III of Matthews, NC; Michael Grubbs of Bowling Green, KY; and Mari Grubbs Medura of Omaha, NE. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Ethel was known for her outgoing, friendly nature and kind heart. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.
Ethel worked as an Administrative Assistant in many government organizations, culminating with a position on Governor Terry Sanford’s staff in Raleigh, a Technical Writer for the Space Program at Cape Kennedy and US House of Representative Richard Prior’s staff in Washington, DC. After retirement, she and Julian enjoyed many years playing golf in Sun City, FL, Boone, NC, Pinehurst, NC and Cary, NC.

Ethel donated her body to the UNC School of Medicine. The family plans to have a private memorial service. Memorials may be made to the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Fund directly online at the Susan G Komen website.
