Marilyn Howe Helmey of Raleigh, NC died May 20, 2015. Born in Salina, Kansas November 28, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Donald E. Howe and Helen Greening Howe of Salina. She was a homemaker and former nursery school teacher. At the time of her death she was a member of St. Philip Lutheran Church of Raleigh, she and her husband had lived in Athens, GA for 23 years. In Athens she was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church for more than 22 years and a member of the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary giving more then 2000 hours of service. She also served as one of the early volunteers during the development and founding of the "ARK" in Athens. She is survived by her husband Edgar Lebey Helmey of Raleigh, NC, two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Julie Helmey of Raleigh, NC, Brian and Kim Helmey, and four grandchildren; Robbie, Jordan, Christopher and Kiersten of Darnestown, MD; one brother John G. Howe and one nephew Justin Howe of Las Vegas, NV; one cousin Patrick Doyle and son Aaron of Lafayette, CA. She is also survived by her step sister Leni Coyle of Arlington, TX, two step nephews John and Jim Coyle, three great nieces and one great nephew. We would like to express our appreciation to the Transitions LifeCare for the wonderful and gracious care given to her. The family would also like to acknowledge the care and support given to Marilyn over the past ten years at Magnolia Glen. A graveside service with entombment will be held in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Savannah, Georgia on Sunday, May 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Philip Lutheran Church of Raleigh, NC, Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Athens, GA, or a charity of your choice.
