Mr. Wilber “Wil” Conn passed away on May 15, 2015 after a period of declining health. Mr. Conn was born in Zebulon, NC on February 20, 1929 to his parents, Janet Edwards Conn and Tollie Manson Conn, who are both deceased. He attended Wakelon High School, Wake Forest College, and graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC where he was elected a member of the Student Council. He was drafted into the Army in 1952 and later graduated from Engineering Officer Candidate School located at Ft. Belvoir, VA. He served as a 2nd Lt. and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his Korean service. He was employed by the American National Red Cross and served as Field Director at U.S. Military installations throughout the world for 34 years. Upon retirement he resided in Chesapeake, VA and worked for 8 years as a volunteer and later as paid staff as Volunteer Training Director at Chesapeake General Hospital. He was an active member of the Greenbrier YMCA. He has resided in Raleigh, NC for the past 10 years where he was cared for by good friends, Pete and Marcia O’Connor of Fairfax Station, VA, nephew Russ Stephenson of Raleigh and nieces Janet Coleman of Warrenton and Jean Powell of Morganton.
He has dedicated his body to science and a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
Mr. Conn is survived by one sister, Mary Alice Holland of Raleigh, NC and six nephews and three nieces.
