Larry Mac Blalock, 80, died Friday. A native of Wake County, he was the first born of Glenn and Minnie Blalock on March 09, 1935. He learned the value of hard work growing up on a farm instilling in him a work ethic throughout his life. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 – 1957. For 19 years, he and his late wife, Blanche Wrenn Blalock, owned and operated the Center Grill on Hargett St. in Downtown Raleigh. On weekends, he worked a booth at the State Fairgrounds Flea Market for 15 years. After closing the grill because of new development, he worked at the N.C. Motor Fleet Management for 13 years before retiring. Larry then moved back to the family farm where he took great pride in maintaining and beautifying the home place. He spent many hours on the tractor mowing to keep the farm in pristine condition. He enjoyed working in the low grounds, whether he was cutting limbs or unstopping beaver dams. Larry was well known for his generosity and took great pleasure in giving to others.
Survivors include his sister, Dianne Blalock Jones (Larry) of Willow Spring; one niece and several nephews; stepgrandchildren Michelle Rockvoan (Chris), Renee Godwin (John), Jeremy Benson; several step great-grandchildren and loving friend, Betty Lawrence.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his stepson, Gary Benson and brothers, Jimmy and Tommy Blalock.
