Frederick Logan Nash, age 80, died Tuesday evening at his home. Born October 16, 1934 in Madison County, GA to the late Jewel Young and Annette Whitaker Nash. He was preceded in death by two brothers, J. Y. Nash and Willis W. Nash. He was a US Army veteran and a graduate of the forestry school at the University of Georgia. Following his graduation he moved to Louisburg, NC where he met his wife. For several years he owned and operated Grass, Inc. and Carolina Timber Management, Inc. in Smithfield and later Nash Equipment Company in Burgaw. Fred was longtime member of First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Bizzell Sunday School Class and served as an usher for more than 15 years. He was a member of the Smithfield Jaycees and the Smithfield Rotary Club.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church of Smithfield. A private burial will take place at Riverside Extension prior to the service.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Anne W. Nash; sons, Fred Nash, Jr. of Charleston, SC and Greg Nash and wife Jennifer of Clayton; brother, R. Nelson Nash and wife Mary of Birmingham, AL; and three grandchildren, Thomas Nash of Charleston, SC and Jacob and Emily Nash both of Clayton.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church, 202 South 4th Street, Smithfield, NC 27577.
