Benjamin Franklin “Benjy” Glover, Jr., age 72, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015. He was born on September 27, 1942 to the late Benjamin Franklin Glover, Sr. and Mary Bryant Speight Glover. He was predeceased in death by his infant sister, Mary Louise Glover.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 33 years, Judith “Judy” Gleason Glover of Rocky Mount; three children, Stephen Glover and his wife, Denise, of Elm City, Susan Brumfield and her husband, Steven, of Stantonsburg, and Sharon Letchworth and her husband, Jeff Tolle, of Kernersville; and his six grandchildren, Mallory Walston and her husband Aaron, John Tyler Brumfield, Brian Glover, Kaylin Peaden, Rebecca Tolle and Katherine Tolle.
He is also survived by his brother, John Glover and his wife, Annette, of Elm City.
Benjy loved his wife, children and grandchildren dearly. Family and church were very important to him and he took his leadership role in both very seriously. In his lifetime he was a member of First Christian, Wilson, NC; First Presbyterian, Wilson, NC and First Presbyterian, Rocky Mount, NC, and served as deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher in each church. He especially missed participating in his Sunday school class in Rocky Mount as illness took his energy away. He was passionate about his work with Fountain Chaplain Support Ministry of which he was a Founding Father and Charter Member, and later served as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Board. He was also a former member of Kiwanis Club in Rocky Mount and Wilson.
Never miss a local story.
He worked in some way with his family on B. F. Glover Farms for most of his life. He was especially fond of his rolls in financial management and timber management and learned to be a burn boss to help with controlled burns in the timber on the farm. Due to his dedication, B. F. Glover Farms was awarded Outstanding Tree Farmer of the Year for Wilson County in 2000. In 1982 he began work with BB&T and retired after 20 years of service from the commercial lending department where he was a regional credit officer for the Eastern Region of North Carolina.
A service in celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at First Christian Church, 207 N.E.
