Robert Lander (Bob) Baird, 72, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away peacefully at his home on May 25, 2015. Bob was born on June 24, 1942, in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was the son of the late William Harrison and Jane Andrews Baird. He graduated from Needham Broughton High School, Raleigh, NC, in 1960. There he served as Captain of the football team, where he was an all-state tackle and with the nickname “Tank.” Bob attended East Carolina University. He was proprietor of several businesses and restaurants in Raleigh, Columbia, SC, and most recently Joseph Equipment Company, Timmy’s Automotive, and Joseph Properties in Myrtle Beach, SC. Bob was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and he cherished the time he spent with family. He helped many people throughout his life.
Bob is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary Jo Joseph Baird; children, Robert Lander Baird, Jr., and his wife, Debra, of Gainesville, FL, Rose Marie Baird Bates and her husband, Louis, of West Columbia, SC, and William Paul Baird and his wife, Laura, of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Zachary Alexander, Laura Marie, and Adam Lander Baird of Gainesville, FL, and Jessica Michelle, Jasmine Marie, and Evan Gabriel Baird of Myrtle Beach, SC; brothers, William L. (Lynnwood) Baird and his wife, Bette, of Durham, NC, and Carlton A. Baird and his wife, Betty Jane, of Pittsboro, NC; niece Anna Baird Choi and her husband, Hunt, of Raleigh, NC and their children, Caswell Harrison, and Jane Louise Baird; many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and a godson, Constantine Vacilios (Taki) Beleos.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Myrtle Beach on Friday, May 29 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 28 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at McMillan-Small Funeral Home.
