Donald Wallace Starkey, 76, died on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at his home in Pittsboro, surrounded by his loving family. Donald was born on February 4, 1939, in Weirton, WV, to the late Clarence Ray and Ina Starkey. He attended Weir High School, completing his GED in the US Army. Donald also graduated from Military Police School in Ft. Gordon, GA and received further military leadership training while stationed in Germany.
Donald retired from the US Army after 20 years of meritorious service, which included two tours of Vietnam and service in France and Germany, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
After retirement from the military, Donald worked for: the VA Dept of Corrections (1976-1989); GE Aerospace (1989-1999); and Nortel Security Dept (1999-2004), finally retiring in 2004.
Donald loved his family, friends, motorcycles, poker, guns, dogs and NASCAR.

In addition to his parents, his son, Eric Ray Starkey, preceded him in death. He is survived by: his beloved wife of 31 years, Patricia Carrick Starkey; two daughters Veronique L. Bach and Sheila L. Codd; daughter-in-law Theresa W. Starkey; four stepsons; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; ex-wife Huguette L. Starkey; sister Dorothy Ray Rodgers; and two brothers, Clarence Ray Starkey and Ronald W. Starkey.
A military funeral service will be held in Pittsboro on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at twelve noon in the cemetery at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church (204 W. Salisbury St.) followed by a reception from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Virlie’s Grill (58 Hillsboro St.).
