Judith Cockrell “Judy” Weaver, age 65, died peacefully surrounded by family at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. Born January 13, 1950 in Wilson County, she was a daughter of the late W. Raymond and Udell Godwin Cockrell. An honors graduate of Barton College in Wilson, she retired as Personnel Director, Coordinator and HR Manager of the Johnston Council on Aging, where she was instrumental in organizing Caregivers Day and many other benefits and activities for area seniors. Judy was a member of the Center Ridge Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder, Clerk of the Session and the Treasurer of the Presbyterian Women. Judy will be loved and remembered for her giving personality and compassion for all.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2015 in the Center Ridge Presbyterian Church, 2712 Glendale Road, Kenly, NC 27542. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Surviving are her husband, Jerry Weaver; son, Kevin Weaver of Apex; daughter, Kelley Johansson and husband “A.J.” of Apex; brother, Charlie Cockrell and wife Roberta of Fuquay-Varina; sisters, Dorothy O’Neal of Selma, Helen Parish and husband Billy of Gordon, AL and Phyllis Rowe and husband Pete of Kenly. She will always be remembered fondly as “Mimi” by her grandchildren, Anders and Annika Johansson. Once Judy became a grandmother, she became known as “Mimi” to all family and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Medical Foundation of North Carolina, 880 Martin Luther King Blvd., Chapel Hill, NC 27514. Please reference in memo line the UNC Neurosciences ICU.
