Catherine (Cathy) Leigh Jones Woodard, 51 years of age passed away on June 5th after a long a courageous battle with breast cancer. Cathy was born in Raleigh, NC, on May 19, 1964 the daughter of Leland T. and Peggy D. Jones. Cathy is survived by her husband of 30 years Keith (Jerry) Gerald Woodard, Jr.; son, Keith Gerald Woodard, III and wife Samantha of Princeton, NC; daughter, Katelyn LeAnne Woodard and boyfriend, Daniel Arnold of Princeton, NC; brother, Leland (Lee) T. Jones, Jr. of Mooresville, NC, In-laws, Keith Gerald Woodard, Sr. and the late Sue Woodard of Princeton and many nieces and nephews.
Cathy was a graduate of Athens Drive High School in Raleigh, and attended both Wake Technical College and UNC Institute of Government. She worked 18 years for State and County Government. During the years of State Government employment, she worked as Ombudsman for both Governor James Martin and Governor Jim Hunt. After moving to the Town of Princeton in 1995, she worked both in the School System and for the Town of Princeton.
Cathy was a wonderful mother and loved to cook. She was very active in Rains Crossroads Original Free Will Baptist Church, and served as Sunday School Teacher and sang in the church choir.
Cathy leaves behind a legion of friends on Oak Island and Kennels Beach, and a family who adored her.

A celebration of her life will be observed Monday June 8th at 6 PM, at Rains Crossroads Original Free Will Baptist Church, 5430 Princeton Kenly Rd., Kenly, NC, and will be officiated by Rev. Jimmy Earp and the Rev. Terry Ellis. Visitation with the family will immediately follow the ceremony in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Rains Crossroads Original Free Will Baptist Church, 5430 Princeton Kenly Rd., Kenly, NC, 27542, to the Free Will Baptist Children’s Home, 7907 Buck Deans Rd., Middlesex, NC 27557 or to SECU Hospice House, P. O. Box 1376, Smithfield, NC 27577.
The family would like to take this opportunity to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Alan Kritz and Jessica Casselberry of Rex Hematology Oncology Associates, and the staff of the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield for the excellent care they provided Cathy. The SECU Hospice House allowed Cathy to pass with dignity, and her family to gather around her during her final days.
