Herman Coy Williams, 89, passed away Monday, June 8, 2015 at Wake Med. Herman was born June 7, 1926 in Wake Forest/Franklin County to the late Robert Coy Williams and Lilly Braswell Williams. He graduated from Wake Forest High School and served his country in the US Navy in World War II as a radioman on the USS Oklahoma City/Pacific Theatre. After serving in the Navy, he received a bachelors degree in Engineering from NC State where he attended on the G.I. Bill. On October 3, 1953 he married Emma Joan Knott Williams. He retired from the Exide Corporation serving as Engineering Manager at the plant in Sumter, SC after 33 years of service.
After retirement they came back to Wake County and built a home on Smithfield Rd. He was a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was a member of the Keen-Age Club and served on various committees at the church. Herman was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and an expert amateur radio operator. His call sign was WA4FGI.
Funeral service 2:00 pm, Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 8400 Poole Rd., Knightdale, 27545. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends 6:00 to 7:30 pm Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Rd., Knightdale and other times at the home on 3833 Smithfield Rd., Knightdale.
Surviving: loving and devoted wife, Emma Joan Knott Williams; son, Kevin and his wife Debbie of Huntersville, NC; grandsons, David and Chris; brother, Stanley Williams of TN, and Margaret W. Stefanac of FL, Betty Williams of TX, Rose W. Gabbard of Raleigh, and Marjorie W. Macks of AL.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Earl, James Clyde, and Donald Williams; and a sister Irene W. Pearson.
