  • Raleigh workers feel neglected after fire and police raises

    Raleigh’s latest budget included $6.7 million in pay increases across the city, with the biggest and most highly touted raises going to members of the city’s police and fire departments. City workers from other departments – solid waste, parks and recreation, and public utilities – say their raises haven’t been implemented as promised and that workers’ concerns about other workplace policies still aren’t being listened to. About 20 members and supporters of the Raleigh City Workers Union, a chapter of the public service union UE150 demonstrated Tuesday, Oct. 17 outside City Hall.
