Diane Marie Foley Harper, age 66, died at her home in Chesterfield, Virginia on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 as a result of advanced breast cancer.
Born November 5, 1948 in South Charleston, West Virginia, to Anna Marie and Cahill David Foley, she was raised and married in Parkersburg, WV, and eventually came to settle in North Carolina. In addition to raising two sons and supporting her husband’s education and career, she found time to complete an undergraduate degree at Meredith College and went on to a long, successful career at NC State University, from which she retired in 2014.
Her passions included doting on her three grandchildren; vacations at the family’s summer cottage in Canada; baking treats for family and friends; and of course anything having to do with the Wolfpack. She also was very active in awareness and fundraising activities aimed at finding a cure for breast cancer, providing her time, energy, and love to other survivors of the disease, having survived and thrived for 21 years after her initial diagnosis and treatment in 1994.
Survivors include her two sons and their spouses, Geoffrey and Veronica Harper of Chesterfield, VA, and Michael and Megan Harper of Sunnyside, NY; her three grandchildren, William, Victoria, and Henry; her sister Rebecca Soeder of Houston, TX and her Brother Joseph Foley of Parkersburg, WV.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 13, at the LDS Church, 5060 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, North Carolina. Relatives and friends are welcome at the service and the reception to follow immediately afterward at the same location.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers or gifts, donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in support of breast cancer research.
