Mrs. Marie Baker Maultsby, age 101, died July 8, 2015, in her home.
She was born in Chicago, lll, December 10, 1913, daughter of the late Raymond Lee and Edna Jackson Baker. She graduated from high school in Clearwater, FL, and after attending Stetson University, she earned a degree from Gregg Business College in Chicago. She was employed by Gulf Life Insurance Company as District Cashier in Tampa and Gainesville, FL. In 193, she married Dow Alexander (Danny) Maultsby, of Gainesville. They moved to Whiteville, NC, in 1946 when he was discharged from the US Army. Beginning in 1953 she was associated with Waccamaw Veneer Company serving as bookkeeper and treasurer until her retirement in 1981. She served the PTA of Whiteville City Schools in a number of capacities. She was an active and honored member of Whiteville United Methodist Church. For many years there she was a teacher and a member of various committees.
Mrs. Maultsby was predeceased by her husband in 1996. She is survived by three sons, Don Mize Maultsby and wife, Nancy, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; Dan Baker Maultsby and wife, Katherine, of Spartanburg, SC; and Raymond Alexander Maultsby of Winston Salem, NC; four grandchildren-Alexander Lyon Maultsby and wife, Terri, of Greensboro, NC; John Baker Maultsby and Gretchen Maultsby, the mother of his children, of Spartanburg, SC; Benjamin Alexander Maultsby and his fiancée Kristina Proffer, of Charlotte, NC; and LT Margaret Louise Maultsby of Bethesda, MD; and five great grandchildren-Katherine Davis Maultsby, Alexander McArver Maultsby, and Perrin Thomas Maultsby of Greensboro, NC; and Clara Marie Maultsby and Emily Bauer Maultsby of Spartanburg, SC.
Mrs. Maultsby is survived also by two brothers - Frank Jackson Baker, of Flat Rock, NC, and Robert Lee Baker of Dunedin FL. She was predeceased by two sisters - Dorothy Baker Aunspaugh of Dunedin, FL. and Helen Baker Liechty of Beverly Hills, FL.
The family expresses special thanks to her friend and caregiver, Regina Simpson, of Clarkton, NC and to her other assistants who supported her with care over her final years.
The family will receive friends Monday, July 13, 2015 from 12:45 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Whiteville United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall prior to the service.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 13, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Whiteville United Methodist Church by the Rev. Paul T. Stallsworth. Burial will follow in the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.
