Matt Beaver Cheatham was born September 29, 1935 in Helena, Arkansas. He is predeceased by his parents, John and Edna Cheatham; sister, Jo Edd Cheatham; and brother, John Cheatham.
Matt graduated as valedictorian from Barton High School in 1953. He graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College (UCA) in 1957 with a MBA and did a graduate study at University of Arkansas in 1957.
Later moving to Beaumont Texas continuing his education at which time he became a Certified Public Accountant. He moved to North Carolina in 1972 and was employed and retired with Progress Energy. He was also a real estate broker.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Long Ray; two stepchildren, Donna DeLong (Tommy Parrish) and David Michael Ray; two grandchildren, Erica DeLong and Brandon Parrish; a brother, Guy Cheatham (Mary Jane); a sister in law, Lil Cheatham; a nephew, Gene Cheatham; and niece, Cecelia Jones.
Funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Clements Funeral Chapel in Hillsborough. Visitation will take place prior to the funeral service from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at Clements Funeral Home. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
