Sue Johnson Rouse died July 15, 2015. She was born December 20, 1924 in Lenoir County to the late Charles Pemberton Johnson and Mildred Hill Johnson. She was the wife of the late Frank A. Rouse. Mrs. Rouse was a lifelong member of Gordon Street Christian Church. After graduating from UNC Chapel Hill she taught in the Dunn City Schools, Moss Hill School and Grainger High School. She enjoyed her students and kept life-long friendships with many of them. After she married, she became a mother to “her boys” James Franklin Rouse, Herbert Lee Rouse and wife Crystal Jones Rouse, and Charles Mabson LaRoque Rouse. An avid historian, she returned to work at Heritage Place, Lenoir Community College, where she was able to pursue her passion for people and genealogy. The family would like to thank her many caregivers headed by Mrs. Sue Brigman and the staff at Magnolia Cottage for making her last years as pleasant and as wonderful as they could be. Graveside service and visitation will be held at 10:00am Monday, July 20, Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gordon Street Christian Church, or Heritage Place care of Lenoir Community College Foundation PO Box 188, Kinston, NC 28502 or a charity of choice. Arrangements are with Edwards Funeral Home.
