Winnie Edwards Brown, 83, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 in Jefferson, NC. Winnie was born in Spring Hope, NC on Wednesday, May 25, 1932, the last of nine children, to the late Henry Rix Edwards and Bessie Delbridge Edwards. She is also preceded in death by her husband Allen Henry Brown and her eight siblings, Woodrow Edwards, Harriett Bass, Karl Edwards, Anne Johnson, Harvey Rix Edwards, Glenn Edwards, Laura Caldwell and Creth Edwards.
Surviving are her only child, daughter, Debbie B. Brown and her husband Gary Brown, both of Rocky Mount and West Jefferson, NC. Also surviving are several loving and caring nieces and nephews and her 4 grand-dogs and 3 grand-cats.
Winnie was a 1954 graduate of Park View Hospital School of Nursing. She was a very determined lady and took great pride in achieving her goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. After graduating from nursing school, and starting her career, she married her loving husband, Allen Brown in 1956. From there they moved to Cincinnati, Ohio so that Allen could continue his education in Mortuary Science and Winnie worked for Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati. When Allen completed his education, they moved back to North Carolina and continued their careers. After working many hard and long hours in the emergency room at Park View Hospital in Rocky Mount, she chose to become a teacher of Allied Health. She began her teaching career at Swift Creek High School in 1966 and then moving on to teach at Northern Nash High School until her retirement in 1987.
Winnie enjoyed laughter and having fun with her husband, family and friends. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Park View Hospital Nurses Alumnae Association and Lakeside Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1130 North Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804, with Dr. Jody Wright officiating. A visitation for family and friends will begin at 1:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Nashville, NC.
