Jean Veronica Wharton, 39, passed away July 31, 2015 in her parent’s home after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. To have met Jean was to bear witness to a smile which would radiate even the darkest of moments. Jean grew up in Chapel Hill. After graduation from high school Jean attended and earned a bachelors degree from East Carolina University. Upon finishing college, Jean bravely moved to New York City to fulfill her dreams of living there. After leaving New York City, Jean realized her true vocation of being a teacher. She found her highest calling and greatest passion as she went through the Montessori Teaching Programs. Jean shared her talents with students in Lower Elementary at Sea Pines Montessori (Hilton Head Island, SC), and most recently at Montessori School of Raleigh (Raleigh, NC). Students, parents and co-workers will attest, she not only taught but also loved. They also knew she was following her calling, and making a difference in all lives she touched. To know her is to have loved her.
Jean is survived by, her parents Bob & Kathy Wharton of Pinehurst, sister and brother-in-law, Kristen & Ed Dibble of Charlotte, and her brother Tom Wharton of Raleigh, and countless friends.
A funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, August 7, at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 5801 Falls of the Neuse Rd., Raleigh, NC 27609. It will be preceded by a visitation and the saying of the rosary in the atrium of the church at 11:00 am.
