Tina’s childhood in Chicago, formed by her Italian immigrant parents, revolved around school, the Catholic Church, and piano. She excelled academically, and skipped fifth grade. As a young woman, Tina worked as an Executive Secretary for Halsey Stuart & Co., a Chicago-based investment bank. She married James Matt September 15, 1940 and enjoyed a loving and devoted marriage for 57 years. Both having experienced difficult childhoods, they proceeded to build a family of the sort neither had, but of which both dreamed. Devotion to her parents, children, and her children’s children, was shown through the sacrifices she consistently made for them throughout her life. Tina valued family, faith, and education. She always put her children’s needs before her own and dealt with life’s obstacles with humor and an abiding faith in God. She was determined that her children realize the American Dream of her parents. She was a woman who overcame the most humble beginnings, and constructed a life of great value and inspiration.
All who knew Tina cherished her unqualified love for them, and returned it to her in kind. She was an extraordinary, gentle, and caring woman, and for her, there will be no substitute. We will forever miss her, but will feel her guiding and loving spirit.
The family wishes to thank all who supported Tina at Springmoor Retirement Center in Raleigh. They made possible many years of happy and peaceful living for her; and through the trust properly placed in them, for the family, as well.
