Lee Durkee peacefully passed away surrounded by her family at Duke Hospice on August 6, 2015. Lee is survived by her husband of 34 years, Wayne and their daughters Dana Kaupp and Gina Propst. Dana and her husband David live in Monroe, NC with their children Ethan, Gracie, Danae, and Alex. Gina and her husband James reside in Hickory, NC with their daughters Nina and Gabriella. Lee is pre-deceased by her parents, Bill and Jean Elliott, and her sister, Renee Elliott Myers.
Lee is also survived by her step-mother, Angela Baker Elliott of Ocala, FL; her sister, Angie Breen and her husband, Ed of O’Fallon, IL; her step-brothers, Jamie Lambert of Durham, NC and Brian Lambert of Tampa FL; and a brother-in-law, Cyrus “Tom” Myers of Plattsburgh, NY. She is the proud “Nana Lee” of several children of neighbors and friends and a loving Aunt Lee to many nieces and nephews. Lee loved animals and dogs often ruled their home.
Lee worked many years as a medical laboratory technologist (MLT) at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, NY. Upon moving to North Carolina she worked as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist at Duke University Medical System. She enjoyed traveling, cruising, and recently visiting Costa Rica where she loved zip lining. Her greatest joy and blessing was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her family always came first in her thoughts and actions.
A memorial service will be held at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church of Durham, NC on Saturday, August 15 at 10:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to their local hospice because of the care she and other members of her family have received through hospice.
