Bobby R. Blinson, age 81 of Fernandina Beach, FL, passed away Wednesday August 26, 2015 at the Warner Center for Caring at Baptist Medical Center/Nassau.
A native of Clayton, NC, he was born on June 26, 1934. Following graduation from Clayton High School in 1953, he joined the U.S. Navy. With his service to his country completed, Mr. Blinson enrolled at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC where he graduated with a degree in Accounting. In 1960, he joined the Internal Revenue Service as an agent/trainee. In 1962, he became an IRS Agent assigned to the Greensboro, NC District. Several years later, he was transferred to Baltimore, MD as Chief of the Examination Division. In 1988 he became Chief of the Employee Plans/Exempt Organizations Divison where he was responsible for over 325 employees in six district offices and four posts of duty covering the District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Virginia. In 1990, Mr. Blinson was awarded the Clifford R. Gross Award for “Excellence in Federal Government Service”. He retired from the I.R.S. as Chief of Audits in Washington, DC in 1994. Upon retiring from federal service, he moved to Amelia Island where he continued in private practice Accounting. He was a member of the Florida National Society of Accountants, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Presbyterian faith and without saying, an avid Tar Heel fan.
Mr. Blinson is preceded in death by his parents, Loomis Ezra Blinson, Lenora Bridges Blinson and Ruth Johnson Blinson.
He leaves behind his wife and soul mate, Cindy Blinson, his children, Matt and Leesa Edwards, Blackshear, GA, Kiley and Brian Middleton of Folkston, GA, Mandy and Chris White of Callahan, FL, his brother, Michael Blinson of Clayton, NC, his grandchildren; which were his pride and joy, Jesse, Haylee, Mason, Bryce, Lauryn, Abby, Allie and Brian, his 2 nieces, Michael and Jordan, his nephew, Matt and Amy Prosser.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday at the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Home. Services will follow at 2:00 PM with Brother Hal McIntosh of River Road Baptist Church in Hilliard, FL officiating.
Mr. Blinson will be laid to rest in Bosque Bello Cemetery in a private family service.
Flowers are accepted and appreciated by the family and Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the R. Neil Hampton, Jr. Scholarship Fund, c/o River Road Baptist Church in Hilliard, FL.
