John Filer, husband of Jane Filer, passed away in his home, Wednesday, August 19, at 9:05PM, after struggling briefly with a severe illness. His wife, Jane Filer and sister Theresa Filer were at his side when he took his last breath.
John Filer lived his life in the shady woods of North Carolina. A Forester by trade, he retired over a decade ago to help his wife, Jane, in her art business. John was an avid reader and intensely researched little known facts of the Civil War and WWII. He was a great woodsman and lived the majority of his life in his own hand-built home in the woods with his wife. He was a gentle giant of a man, kind and quiet and he will be missed by many.
John's immediate family includes his wife, Jane Filer of Chapel Hill, his father Miles Filer of Vandalia, IL, and his sisters Theresa Filer of Los Angeles, CA, and Paula Edgar of Vandalia, IL.
There will be a memorial service on Sunday, September 13th, 2015, at 4:00PM at The Willow Oak Pavilion at 630 Vickers Road in Chapel Hill. Please join us for a potluck dinner sharing in the celebration of his life. Drinks provided. Bring a dish to share.
Never miss a local story.
John's life sparked and ignited an eternal ripple transmitting joy throughout the universe that will never end. Humanity will never be the same again. Understated as he was, his work and love for life will never die.
