ATI Industrial Automation, an Apex robotics component maker, is doubling its plant capacity an expects to create 200 jobs over the next several years.
The company will hold a ground breaking ceremony Friday for the project. After the expansion, ATI will occupy 129,000 square feet in Apex’s Pinnacle Park business park.
The expansion is being driven by growing demand for the company's robotic end effectors, particularly in the aerospace industry, said ATI marketing supervisor Charles Haines. He projects that the company’s sales will increase between 10 and 15 percent annually in the coming years.
Robotic ends are specialized tools that perform delicate operations in industries ranging from automotive to medical packaging. ATI's major clients include General Motors and NASA.
Never miss a local story.
“The diversity in our customer base coupled with our focus on innovation and customer service has allowed us to succeed in a sluggish global economy,” ATI CEO Robert Little said in a statement.
This is the third time the company has expanded its Apex headquarters since 2007. About 180 of the company’s 200 employees work in Apex. The company also has offices in Michigan, China and Brazil.
More than 40 percent of ATI’s sales now come from foreign markets, with Europe and Asia driving much of the recent growth. Company executives hope the expansion will boost productivity and shorten the time it takes to deliver ATI products.
