A food manufacturer plans to open a facility in Pitt County and create as many as 57 jobs over the next three years.

Natural Blend Vegetable Dehydration will invest more than $12 million in the facility in Farmville, about 75 miles east of Raleigh. The plant will be used to dehydrate vegetables for use as an ingredient in different foods.

The project is being developed by Ham Produce, a Snow Hill-based company that operates one of the largest sweet potato farming operations in North Carolina.

Ham Produce is eligible to receive a $115,000 grant from the One North Carolina fund. The grant requires a local match, and the company must meet investment and job-creation milestones.

The average annual wages for the new jobs will be $38,123, plus benefits. The Pitt County average is $33,769.
