Raleigh investment firm Triangle Capital’s net investment income fell 9 percent to $13.8 million in the first quarter.
On a per-share basis, net investment income was 50 cents, down from 56 cents a year ago.
The company made six new investments totaling $63.7 million and another half-dozen investments totaling $13.8 million in companies that were already in its portfolio.
Triangle Capital makes loans to midsize, privately owned businesses that range between $5 million and $30 million; it also takes a minority ownership stake in its portfolio companies.
Triangle Capital released its first quarter results Wednesday after the markets closed. Earlier in the day its shares closed at $25.95, up 8 cents. Its shares have fallen six percent this year.
