The number of passengers departing from Raleigh-Durham International Airport increased 5 percent in April compared to the same month last year.
A total of 401,769 passengers departed RDU in April. The number of passengers arriving at the airport last month was 409.132, up 4 percent from April 2013.
“This is a good story to tell,” RDU President and CEO Mike Landguth said in a statement. “Over the past year, airlines, particularly Delta, have been adding new air service and larger aircraft into the market. As new seats have been added, our passengers have purchased those seats, proving once again that if airlines put the service into our market, our passengers will use it.”
Delta’s departures increased 13.9 percent in April compared to the same period last year. The increase came as the airline increased service to Los Angeles launched new service to Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. Delta plans to begin daily service from RDU to Cleveland next month.
Nine major airlines currently offer about 200 daily departures from RDU to 39 destinations.
