Triangle Capital reported second-quarter net investment income of $16.2 million, or 49 cents per share, falling a penny per share short of Wall Street’s expectations.
Still, the company’s net investment income, bolstered by its larger investment portfolio, was 10.3 percent higher than a year ago.
The Raleigh-based company makes loans to midsized, privately owned companies; it also takes a minority ownership stake in those companies.
In the second quarter Triangle Capital made four new investments totaling $49.9 million. It also invested $15.2 million in companies already in its portfolio.
The company’s total investment portfolio was valued at $885 million as of June 30.
Triangle Capital released its financial results after the markets closed Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, its shares closed at $21.23, down 10 cents. Its shares have risen 5 percent this year.
