Harvey Schmitt, who retired last year after 21 years as CEO of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, has been named to the board of directors of Raleigh-based Paragon Bank.
“Harvey’s hard work and dedication have been instrumental to helping Raleigh become such a great city,” Paragon CEO Bob Hatley said in a prepared statement.
At the chamber, Schmitt was involved in the recruitment of Red Hat and RBC Bank to downtown Raleigh and also helped recruit the Carolina Hurricanes to the city. He also worked on creating the Raleigh Convention Center and the Downtown Raleigh Alliance.
Paragon Bank has three branches – in Raleigh, Charlotte and Cary – and assets of $1.3 billion.
Schmitt becomes the 12th member of the bank’s board of directors.
