North Carolina State Treasurer Janet Cowell has joined the board of directors of e-commerce technology company ChannelAdvisor.
The Morrisville-based company disclosed in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing late Monday that Cowell was added to the board, which was increased from seven to eight board members.
Cowell’s term on ChannelAdvisor’s board will expire next year. Her compensation includes a $50,000 annual retainer and restricted stock valued at $150,000. That stock vests on March 1, 2017.
Cowell, 47, became the state’s first female treasurer when she was first elected in 2008. The Democrat was re-elected to a second term but announced last year that she would not seek re-election to a third; her term as treasurer expires in January.
Cowell has an M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business as well as a master’s degree in international studies from that school’s Lauder Institute. She also has served as a state senator and on the Raleigh city council.
